Filming in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is one of the easiest countries to film in in Central Asia: drone permit is not required, film permit relatively easy to obtain, filming locations are restricted to only few small areas of the country (border zones, military bases, and few other).
1) Drones
Laws regulating the usage of drones are being developed by the government but hasn’t been accepted into a law. Any consumer and commercial drones (except agriculture drones) can be brought into the country without any prior registration and permit.
DJI drones (regular and fpv) of latest models are readily available in the country and can be rented with or without pilots.
2) Filming equipment
There are number of rental shops and production studios where filming equipment can be rented out. These shops and studios provide a wide variety of cameras, including popular models such as Arri, Red Komodo, and Sony, as well as a variety of accessories to complement them.
3) Transportation
When traveling between regions, ground transportation is the primary mode of transport for locals and visitors alike. While regular flights are only available between the two major cities of Bishkek and Osh, filmmakers can rely mostly on outfitted 4x4’s to reach their desired destinations.
For those who need to reach more remote locations, helicopter (Airbus H145, H125 and MI8) transportation is also available for hire. However, in the past, some local providers have failed to provide proper documentation needed for insurance.
